For us at Peace, Christian education is more than just Sunday School.

At Peace, Christian education is more than just Sunday School, which we have each week for everyone from infants to senior citizens.

As part of our education ministry, we sponsor book study groups focusing on current biblical and theological issues. The book for Fall 2013 was “The Heart of Christianity” by Marcus Borg.  These discussion groups provide a time of supportive learning and fellowship as we seek a greater understanding of the focus-book theme.

A major project for the past several years has been the Easter Carnival, held the Saturday before Easter.  This is a joy-filled community outreach activity for both young and old.  This annual event has grown from an attendance of a couple hundred visitors to close to 1000.

As part of our youth focus, Peace UCC sponsors 4 international children through the national office of the United Church of Christ.  Currently the children are located in the Philippines, Botswana, Israel, and India.  We provide letters, gifts, and financial support for schooling.  These children range in age from 6 to 15.

In the summer months, Vacation Bible School is a major program of Peace Church. VBS provides programming for both children and adults, including a meal and a activities which include music, crafts and a biblical story theme.

The Christian Education budget also includes funds for a limited number of scholarships for summer church camp at Johns River Camp in Western North Carolina.  Several of our youngsters have taken advantage of this.
